No! Cd Case
They Might Be Giants — View Client
2002 DISC, IDENTITY, PRINT, TECHNOLOGY
“No!” was the first album by They Might Be Giants specifically geared for children. The Chopping Block created the entire identity and a whole imaginary world for “No!” to exist in. The print material was actually based upon the creative work executed for the interactive CD/ROM included on the disc. Most of the illustrations that adorn the booklet along with the lyrics are re-drawn scenes from the interactive portion of the project also designed, programmed and conceptualized by The Chopping Block.

2002 DISC, IDENTITY, PRINT, TECHNOLOGY
“No!” was the first album by They Might Be Giants specifically geared for children. Chopping Block created the entire identity and a whole imaginary world for “No!” to exist in. In addition to that work, the interactive portion of the project was also designed, programmed and fully conceptualized by The Chopping Block.
14 of the CDs 18 songs were fully animated and most had an interactive component. In keeping with They Might Be Giants bizarre world-view, the interactive parts stay true to what is happening in the lyrics. For example, in “Fibber Island” a real house and dog become a house made of pie with the dog two-miles wide. Perhaps the key moment on the disc is when the user is able to sort through quarter segments of George Washington’s head which culminates in four segmented presidential heads of Mount Rushmore in “Violin”.

1999 WEB
The band They Might Be Giants’ best known web incarnation was this second design, which won numerous awards and was the active official site for over 8 years.
The site was a strange shooting gallery that included an accordion, several targeted icons and the heads of presidents Lincoln, Roosevelt, Nixon and Taft. The site was one of the most recognized sites in our portfolio during the years of the dot com boom. We were able to convert many TMBG fans to Chopping Block fans by successfully representing the truly unusual nature of TMBG music with an equally unusual web experience.

One of Chopping Block’s earliest Flash/html hybrid sites. Elvis is a fun mini-site used to promote TCM’s acquisition of the only documentary ever created on Elvis when he was still alive.
The design itself is Vegas-Elvis meets younger Elvis in an overall retro presentation via 1960’s typography and color. The site is littered with goodies like ecards, interactive band line-up and even video which was a novelty online in the year 2000.

The design is intended for a high-end, tech savvy audience already used to being dazzled by a slick presentation. Chopping Block delivered all that plus a beautiful way to display featured products right on the front page that cycle through at a display window scale.
Additionally, Chopping Block helped establish an identity for the shop based upon some of the architectural details of the interior of their physical space. An overall look with a vast amount of potential to expand to their overall brand.

As if the Sunday comic pages were not enough, the new identity will start appearing across a large variety of Dilbert merchandise from calendars to mugs to pretty much anything you can imagine a logo could fit on.

The Mousetrap Project is an initiative to protect America’s children from online predators. The Chopping Block partnered with the truly inspiring folks at the Virginia Community Policing Institute to build a beautiful & captivating education resource about the danger of online pedophilia. Originally created for release on disc and later published online, Mousetrap is an interactive data driven experience for parents and kids. Telling stories & using our design skills simplify the complex is our favorite challenge, and with Mousetrap the complexity was emotional. The studio designed, illustrated and animated the entire project. Successfully tackling a difficult subject is rewarding enough, but hopefully, this educational resource will also help some parents keep their children safe from online predators.

The Campfire Media Group came to Chopping Block to help them build a home for their My Home 2.0 web project for Verizon’s FiOS internet services. We put our best positronic minds on the job, basing the 2pointhome.com content on what was most popular from the show, while adding content management and data capturing capabilities. The redesign’s site aesthetics and architecture have made 2pointhome.com a more intuitive and engaging experience.
The site features many kinds of technological tips and how-to articles to help the average family upgrade their 20th century homesteads into a state-of-the-art 21st century facility well beyond the expected upgrade to the FiOS product.
